Selling Well established luxury SUV classified ad site...good traffic and revenues.

This site is about a year old and is the largest Hummer classified ad site on the net with about 10k Hummers listed. I had built the site and sold it a long time ago and then the buyer wanted to sell it so I bought it back. It was getting decent traffic before but during the recent Google Penguin update the site has seen a good jump in the rankings and since the update (on the 4th of June) the traffic has really started to increase.

The site is obviously a specialty niche so it is not going to get tens of thousands of visitors per month but sites like these for high end niches can be very profitable with smaller amounts of traffic as long as it is a direct target market. The site has great search engine saturation. Just this month (as of the 26th) the site has had 450 different keywords drive traffic to the site from the search engines. The two main ones have been "Hummers for sale" and "Used Hummers for sale". It also gets traffic from terms like military humvee for sale and black hummer for sale and keywords like that.

The site has had as many as 93k page views in one month which was back in Jan of this year (we were marketing the site then) and it has a very high page view per visitors. If you were looking for a hummer and found a site with 10k of them listed I am sure you would look at a lot of pages. The site has automated software that searches other large free classified ad sites and just picks out the Hummers and places them on the site and it also gets listings from users that add them. The software that gets the ads is fully automated. It gives the site tons of content which helps it get traffic from hundreds of different keyword rankings.

I have been experimenting with the revenue streams since getting the site back. I had adsense on the site and it was doing about $20 per month. The site does charge a $29.95 fee to have your hummer placed on the home page for 30 days. It does not sell a whole lot of these packages but has 5 running right now which is about a average month. Right now I have several cpa offers running and a content locker. If you visit the site and try to contact someone about a hummer you have to fill out a survey to access the contact info. I am not sure that is the best option for this site but it has earned a little revenue (only been running it a few days) but I am worried that might anger some of the site visitors so I may pull that off. Just the featured ads and adsense can earn the site a easy $200 a month without having to do any work on the site.

The real money on these sites is in the dealers. I have a database of about 3k dealers from the US that if someone uses the buy now I will include (it was very expensive) to do some marketing to. What I do on some of my high end sites is we have a plugin that geo targets the visitors and we will sell ad space to dealers so when someone visits the site local to them they see their ad for their dealership. For example we will find one of the 20 or so Hummer dealers in Atlanta area and for $29.95 per month they can list unlimited Hummers on the site and any visitor that comes to our site from the Atlanta area will see a banner ad for the local dealership. If you find a dealer in the top 100 cities that is willing to do that you can earn $40k per year and it is really an easy sell to them. Once the come to the site and see we have 10k hummers listed they are usually interested. The cost of $29.95 per month is very little considering one ad in the news paper cost the three or four times that for one day or a listing on ebay cost a lot more than that.

This is a great authority site and with some work could turn into a full time business for someone that is willing to work the dealer angle. I am asking $1800. Will consider offers on the site.

 

How many free listings do you get on average? (real users submits, not automated listings)
