Weird traffic spikes

The past couple days traffic to one of my Adwords campaigns has suddenly gone thru the roof...but the problem is it's not converting well. I got more clicks those too days than I did for the rest of the month, and ended up losing money on them. I didn't change a thing about my campaign, but suddenly it's flooded with low-converting traffic. I've seen this with shady PPC companies before, but not with Adwords. The best part is I tried dropping my bid, but it's already at the minimum bid and got turned off...so apparently it's either bad traffic or no traffic. Did this ever happen to you? Any idea what might be going on and how to fix it?

Did the majority of clicks come from a specific keyword? I would examine your keyword list to see if the keywords are targeted or if they are generally broad. Also, review your ad text to see if your ad is calling the user to convert.

As for the flood of clicks, I'm not sure what happened. Did you change anything in your budget?

If you suspect the traffic was invalid, I'd contact Google. Do you have access to your website reports? Can you check to see if you received a ton of clicks from a specific domain.

That is where I would start. Hope everything gets ironed out.

Nope, no changes in budget or anything - and it was the most highly targeted keyword and ad copy possible. My best guess is a competitor dropped out of a higher spot and I moved up - and now I'm discovering why they dropped out. But I'll see if my website reports turn up any clues, thanks for the tip.
