Weird jump in traffic and then back down

    Hi all,

About a month ago I set up my first site for affiliates, got a nice clean design with some decent content. I've been working on the link building and things are building up slow but steady.

At the moment I’m averaging between 30-40 unique visitors a day, but something happened last week I can't explain.

For 2 days last week my traffic increased to 300-400 unique visitors a day and I received 8 orders on Amazon (Happy days) but then after 2 days the traffic dropped back down to 30-40 unique visitors.

I've been working on this every day and keeping a close eye on Google, I didn't notice any major change in search engine position. I only had basic stats at the time, since then I've set up Google Analytics.

Has anyone else had weird traffic activity like this? Anyone like to hazard a guess as to what might have happened?

Obviously I'm desperate to find out what caused this as I want to repeat the process again.

    Thanks guys

    Paul

Since the site is new... it's likely the Google "honeymoon". They frequently will show newly indexed pages on page 1 of the SERPs for a few days (sometimes a few weeks) for what they feel to be relevant keywords even though the page does not legitimately rank on page 1. But then after a short time the page will disappear from page 1 and fall far back in the the SERPs where they should have ranked all along.

    It's completely normal.

Thing is I've already built my way onto page 1 of google for most of my keywords, and I can obviously see what I sold on Amazon and they relate to my keywords.

I'm still on page 1 now, time flys it's probably closer to 2 months my site has been live, it started at about page 8 on google.

I had some decent quality backlinks straight away from my own network to help the process along.
