I haven't seen this asked anywhere yet.

Is there any different in the amount of weight you are given if you are willing to show banner ads vs. text ads on your website?

    Thanks for any replies.

I am just curious to see what everyone else thinks on the matter. If you are willing to display huge banner ads on your website vs. tiny txt ads on your website should you receive more weight in return for that?

I guess it would be looked at as an incentive to display the banner ads that people have rather than the text ads.... Who would display the banner ads otherwise? What reason would there be to display them?

Again, I am just curious as to what other people think on this matter.

I'd rather people show text ads anyhow. I like getting my link text out there. But for some showing banner ads works better with the style of their website, or so I would assume.

If the weight were higher for banner ads, then wouldn't it also need to cost more of your weight to have them in rotation? Have to keep these things fair.

That's a good point steph however I was more looking at if you the webmaster are willing to even show 1 - 5 banners on every page of your website rather than 1 -5 small text ads then you the website owner should get more weight to show your own text or banner ads.....

good idea though.... if you do want to show banner ads then it cost double or 1.5 times the weight of what text ads cost.....

That is not a good thing for me because I have 6 banner ads waiting to be shown as soon as I get the rest of this network set up on all of my ASP pages.... lol

so hold on; I don't like that idea.... :p

It seems to me that each of us has an opinion as to the best way to manage the COOP. So here's mine: Keep it simple. The fewer rules the better. Very few things in life are completely fair and adding complexity to try to compensate often makes matters worse and creates new inequities.

I would rather have a well positioned text ad than a poorly placed banner ad. So do we also adjust for ad placement? My answer: Leave it all alone and let everyone ajust their participation to the rules that currently exist.

I think you should get more weight, the higher the ads up are on the page.

I thought I read something about that in one of shawns posts talking about how weight is assigned... something about the design of the site, the importance of the site.... I can't remember if he said the placement of the ads or not though...

well, I see how this subject can have place to be, but first there are usability criterias should be determined. We can't just say higher or lower, text or picture out of the blue.. there is a web page usability theory and some people can agree with it and some disagree, so it can get a little complicated. Then how to determine if banner ads are more producing then text and vice versa - I think it would flux from one site to another depending on different criterias.. That's a whole internet adverising theory which is changing all the time..
