Hi all. I have a UK site and am currently doing a bit of SEO. Do links from other countries, eg US, carry the same weight as UK ones? Thanks.
Thanks webcosmo. I don't think it really would be relevant so may just stick to my own neck of the woods.
Links from other countries do work for specific google engine . They also are counted in alexa and google. But there is no impact on your position at all . So if you based in UK your website can be at better position in for ex. google.com.au than in google.co.uk . Or you can just not appear in co.uk but have a good poistion in australia - even if your website is .com and is targeted to UK
It depends on websites business. If website providing online business then it is better to promote it all over the world. If it provides local business ( Transportation) then it better to promote it locally. Submit the website in local classifies websites.
It is actually very good to have a diversified link portfolio from different countries, as it is natural.
Unless you're targeting local service in the UK, I'd go for links from anywhere in the world. If your site is for local (demographic) use, then look for links from the UK, but also sprinkle in some relevant ones from overseas. You're looking for a natural link building progression. I have a couple of .co.uk that are about 5 years old and both PR3. The incoming links are from all over the world in very tight niche markets. One of them outranks the manufacturer website that I represent, for multiple KWs.
IMO Google has gotten more acquainted with other country's websites than the US since people were abusing it. The playing ground is on your side just as much as the US.
