Can some of you fellow DP users please post a good workout routine for someone who just joined a gym and wants to lose some weight?

you really don't have to join a gym. just focus on doing cardio like biking, swimming and esp running. watch what you eat. try to consume less food high in fat.

More specifically, what I'm looking for is a routine for the nautilus equipment as that is what I like to use.

Well, muscles at rest burn more calories than fat at rest. Therefore, any routine you are able to do which causes you to build muscle mass is going to cause you to burn fat over time. However, because muscle weights more than fat, you may not see much net weight loss -- unless you are significantly overweight.

You can ask the employees at the gym for suggestions and to show you how to use the equipment. Do not be shy and don't do the typical macho, guy thing. You look smarter asking and learning to sue the equipment correctly than doing it wrong and risking muscles tears and or pulled tendons.

From my experience, start slow and set very achievable goals. You cannot change your lifestyle to include more exercise and a better diet unless you are achieving a lot of success points along the way. I started doing bicep curls with three pound weights because I was fat and had loss significant muscle mass by being a apple-pie, taco chip munching couch potato for several years. Four years later I use 32 pound weights.

Today my short run is 7Ks through a hilly park and I training for my third Vancouver Sun Run. When I started, I could barely walk around the block. So I walked further and then found hills to walk. When I started running I could not go more than a block. So I ran a block. And I swore that whatever distance I did today, that was the minimum I would do tomorrow or the next day. I therefore added distance one driveway at a time until I was at a kilometer and then two and then . . . . I changed my diet and combined with the exercise I lost 30 pounds over two years and I have kept it off the last three years.

Depending on your weight, go to your doctor and get your blood pressure checked out.

Never backslide on your diet once you start exercising regularly. I learned that the hard way when I went to the doctor for my once a decade checkup and my blood pressure was 191 over 120 even though I regularly ran. I had become reckless in my diet because I thought that because I ran three to four times a week that I could afford to eat fattier and saltier foods.

nautilus machines arn't going to burn colories like running or swimming

if you are going to try to burn colories using nautilus machines, do some type of circuit training , like don't rest in between excerises, just go straight from one machine to the next keeping your heart rate up

I stopped going to the gym but I used this routine when I was still working out:

    Monday - Chest and Biceps
    Tuesday - Back and Triceps
    Wednesday - Rest
    Thursday - Shoulders and Legs
    Everyday - Abs

If you want to loose some weight I suggest you do at least 40 minutes of cardio activity (That's running etc.). If you want to take suppliments to help your weight loss you should try L-Carnitine, this stuff helps you sweat more and increases energy usage in your body, take it before you hit the gym.

You will also need to do some weights in order to tone yourself, I suggest you do the following:

    Monday - Chest & Triceps
    Tuesday - Only cardio
Wednesday - Legs, shoulders and treps
    Thursday - Only cardio
    Friday - Back & Biceps

Make sure you do at least 40 minutes of cardio everyday and abs (4x25). Also, it will help a lot if you only eat protein after 6 in the evening.

    Hope that helps :)
