Weight loss website --> good for adsense?

    Hi,

I'm in the process of building a website about weight loss (tips, articles, tools, recipes, products, etc...) because it´s a theme I know lots about.

Do you think it´s a good theme to attract decent (more than 5 cents per click I mean) paying adsense ads?

I have a weight loss blog, and the ads can be anywhere from .03 to $1.00. I know there are certain vitamins and things that have higher paying keywords than just generic weight loss, but it would really depend on the content of each page.

I say go for it anyway. It's something you know a lot about which will make it easier for you to maintain your site and keep adding content. No matter what the cost is per click, you can still make a decent amount from adsense if you have enough traffic and pages.

It depends. I run dietdiscussions.com and receive a healthy amount of traffic. My range of income actually varies as much as anyone else. The diet industry has a wide range of bidders in it, I've noticed.

I've got experience with this area as well. My recommendation is use a keyword tracker or other tools to find a very specialized aspect of weight-loss that has a combo of 1. high-bid keywords 2. Not too many search results on the term and 3. a good number of searches in the big 3 on that term.

Weight-loss in general is fairly saturated, so it is best to go micro-niche with this topic for new sites.

My problem with optimizing http://www.instant-weight-loss.com for the keyword instant weight loss or any other keywords... I don't know why I cannot get even on the page 2 for any keyword I use. I also reviewed the top websites and incorporating it in my website but still no luck.

Ross, are those articles original, private right articles, or from directories? If not original, you may be getting a dupe content penalty.

Do those above you in the SERPs have more articles than you?

Do they have more one way, inbound links than you?

Weight-loss is rough and cut-throat. I wouldn't want to be getting in now!

Cut throat in what way? Like webmasters sabotaging eachother or what? I'm curious cuz I just launched a fitness blog and am hoping it will be one of my best adsense earners.

Well, let's just say it is highly competitive, and I would not be surprised if other "diet" webmasters tried some dirty tricks.

That aside, I really just meant that there's not a ton of room left in that niche, if you can call it a niche (meaning it is really a very broad category).

I am sure that with a lot of hard work (or perhaps BlackHat SEO) there's still some money to be made, particularly if a new fad diet comes out and you are among the first to hop on it.

While I also dabble in "Fitness", i am far less of an expert in that field than in Diet. I really have no advice on that, but I imagine the case is similar in that area, unless you find the next "Pilates" or other craze.
