    Weight Lifting World

My totaly newly re-designed site is up :D It is so much more neater and professional than my other site. I have now invested in a proper .com domain name and a professional host. I have also added an online store which is an affiliate program that integrates itself into the website. Finally there is a discussion forum as well. I even setup mail servers so that people can send e-mail to "support@weight-lifting-world.com" instead of something like "bigbob@hotmail.com" it looks a lot more pro this way.

What do you guys think? Some parts of the website are still missing content but the majority is there.

On nearly all the pages some of the text at the bottom is overlapped and therefore unreadable in Firefox 1.0 on Linux. I'd also make the top banner a link back to the home page because most people expect to click on a logo and be taken there.

I can send you a screenshot if you want, or just PM me if you want me to take a look and see if the problem has been fixed. :)

Ok I think I fixed it, I just moved some of the graphics down a bit. There is a small difference when viewing the site with IE vs. FireFox but it is not big deal. Can you please double check on linux to make sure?

    Thanks for the help.

It's still broken in Firefox on Linux for me, don't know why though. Opera works fine on Linux though. I'm guessing that moving the graphics down might fix the problem to an extent, but only if you move them far enough so that it will work on every page (I've seen a similar problem before on one of my sites).

Why do you build everything in layers? This must have take you loads of time to build..

It would be so much easier to build in tables and you can scale them so it will fit in various screen sizes (at my site over 50% uses 1024x768 and about 30% still use 800x600) and will work great in firefox, ie and more.

You are using Times font, but the adverts from google and the shop are in arial. Try using the same fonts for all, it just reads more easy. see another thread about fonts, http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=7932

Try to build according to the W3 standard http://validator.w3.org/
Insert Meta keywords and descriptions, make titles H1, H2 and so on. Make a sitemap and disclaimer. And add more content to the site.

I have read many articles, including some on this forum, that say layers are better for SEO reasons and load the page faster. It is also easier for me to work with layers because I can layout my site the way I want it to, not the way the tables formatting will allow me to. I have looked at my site with both 800x600 and higher and it displays fine(at least for me). I guess I'm going to have to visit some of my friends and see my site from their computers.

Good catch with the font, I will change that.

I have titles on all pages, and descirptions and keywords on the main index page.

Layers are good for accessibility and a number of other things too...

Good job - don't listen to the table freaks ;) :D

I've just looked at the source code for the site - you do know that if you specify an ID (rather than a class) for any element it should be unique within the page? You have Layer4 (and others) used several times, which is not how IDs should be used.

I love the layers over tables too. Do not pay them any attention :) (no, don't start another "war" please, tables are good for some structures and layers for others. It never has to be one way or another). However, when I go to your store I find that the right side menu overlaps the third colomn (allmost, which is how I noticed the colomn in the first place).

Ups - That was my post no. 100... Huray :p

    Hi,

did you look at my site just now or before? I know about the overlap issue this morning when the store used tables, it would overlap at 800x600 resolution. But now I changed it to layers and if the resolution is 800x600 or lower it should just make a scroll bar at the bottom.

It still looks... well, not so good actually. The entire page (the online e-store) is placed all the way to the left and about 80% to the right (my screen is 1280*1024) so there is a white no-content colomn in the right side.

It looks to me like the "featured products" is placed too far to the right and maybe the "product search" box is too wide... I haven't looked at the source, just looking at the page as it presents itself (in IE6.029)

I see what you mean, wow that high resolution, you must have lots of desktop icons that don't all fit at lower resolutions ;) It is inevitable that there is a white space to the right at higher resolutions because the site was optimized for 1024x768 Maybe I should just put some sort of a message about that on the main page  I fixed it the best I could, put everything on the store page into tables put at high resolutions everything just gets a little bit displaced, but at least it doesnt not overlap now :D

I see the text overlap with that dotted line image. It blurs the last line of text so I can't read it. It happens on other pages as well, for instance the products page. The "Online Store" text is overlapping the Welcome paragraph. I am using Firefox on Windows.

    My suggestions:

    1. Get a new logo. The current logo does not as professional as it could. At the very least get a new embedded globe image for the logo text.

    2. Get rid of the "Navigation Menu" text. Everyone should know what those links are without being told.

    3. Add more meaningful titles. For instance, the Nutrition page has a title "Nutrition". I would make it more oriented to something folks might be searching for like "Nutrition Information" or "Nutrition Guide". According to Overture, these were common search terms in December using the word Nutrition:

    36993 sport nutrition
    20259 nutrition fact
    12526 food nutrition
    11778 general nutrition center
    11485 health nutrition
    8647 nutrition information
    8070 child nutrition
    7581 diet nutrition
    5111 optimum nutrition
    4557 nutrition guide

    Other than that, looks good.

done and done, I know what you mean abot the globe, I'll try to come up with something better. Still trying to figure out the store overlap issue. I've removed the cursed dotted lines at the bottom of every page all together. thanks.

Thanks for the offer. I wouldn't mind that at all, but only if you have the extra time, I don't like asking too much from people.
