I know before the weight change, my base weight was usually hitting the cap. I don't know if the new weight, relative to the old weight, was better or worse, since I don't know the formula Shawn is using but I suspect that even though the new weight calculation formula/system is setup to not let huge sites dominate by calculating weight with a logarithmic equation rather then linear, it still may favor sites with allot of indexed pages. I've taken a few steps to get more pages indexed and to hopefully hold onto them.
I've got my eggs in the FREEBS - Free Book Store basket for building indexed pages. Hope it works out all around.
similar effect here? I figure since the cap got busted, we have to add a bit more weight. Anyone done any testing to see how much we have to add to regain our spots?
Why does stuff like this always go down when I am on vacation?! I was in Costa Rica when the "Super Bowl" update demolished my rankings, this time I was in the Virgin Islands and there was a PR update AND a coop update! Sheesh...
Wanted to add to my previous post. All keywords have returned to normal, I am prone to panic, sorry Great work Shawn.
You need to be more like me, never over react, always think things through before you post, and never insult anyone.
Like some others here, I have noticed a big drop in ad impressions since the weight update. Perhaps it is only the bad luck of being cached on a low traffic site, but I'm seeing the same thing for all of my ads, not just one or two.
VS, Give me a call next time you come to Costa Rica and maybe we can enjoy together a nice Casado with a couple of Imperiales. I’ll also be glad to point you to many wonderful places regular tourists don’t even know of. Pura Vida! .
mmmmm...casado vegetariano con un Imperial...YUMMY! I miss Costa Rica already. If not sooner, I will be back in August and I will definately give you a call. Plane tix are only $250 right now !
Impressions have dropped dramatically for my anchors... from 5-7k/day on each now down to under 1000. I hate google, and beginning to not like the way the coop is setup anymore :[ Not complaining just giving my opinion though, it's still a great coop network just not as good for my site anymore.
Lol I get this negative feedback for posting my opinion (not even on the coop, but on the new way shawn's doing it) "The door is wide open..." Sad. Isn't anyone else seeing this? Much fewer impressions now than before... the only people benefiting are probably spammers with no cap. Again just my opinion and I don't plan on leaving the coop anytime soon.
thats why link vault is a great alternate option and why lots of us are moving our sites over not all of mine but a few to test & play with
I thought I would collect some data on my weight and see if I could do some calculations on it later. So for each of my domains I look up the number of pages (API) and weight. In this process I also look around on my pages and realize that on one domain where I run the coop ads in a subdomain the root folder actually has a higher PR (3 vs. 2) than the subfolder. These domains all have few pages indexed but as I log the results of my investigation in Excel I find this: Domain1 root (PR1, 54 pages, weight 203, weight per page 3.76) Domain2 subfoler (PR2, 5 pages, weight 13, weight per page 2.60) Domain2 root (PR3, 47 pages, weight 98, weight per page 2.09) Weight per page seems to reduce with increased PR ps. Domain2 does not have ads on all pages and therefore I can not use this setting for that account although I have robots.txt'ed so that Google should remove any html files, so I will change to that folder later. ps2. Five ads all around, before anybody asks.
Number of pages quoted are from "Pages in URL" from the keyword/backlink tracking tool. Someone suggested that this should be the number of pages used by coop for weight calculations. ps. To make it even more fun, in the keyword tool the entry domain2/subfolder gets PR0 and five pages domain2/subfolder/ gets PR2 and eight pages No matter if I use the trailing slash or not the ad network will give me a weight of 13. For domain2 I get PR0 and 47 pages For domain2/ I get PR3 and 39 pages and worse of all With domain1/ I get PR1 and 248 pages I want to be able to use the names with slashes in coop
The correct calculations after updating page count (dropping the link from backlink tool and readding them). PR1, 247 pages, weight 203, weight per page 0.82 PR2, 5 pages, weight 13, weight per page 1.44 PR3, 30 pages, weight 98, weight per page 3.27 Makes more sense
