I take it you have seen first hand many of the effects - like the surfers in santa cruz who would say "I have been smokin pot for years and it hasn't affected me in any way" the problem is it takes some decifering to figure out what he just said.

Being around the homeless in the area and many guys who have become borderline homeless (living place to place) have one thing in common - drug and/or alcohol use. The results are actually similar in most cases: a lack of reasoning and the mental state is that of the age they started using heavily.

Most struggle very hard to live apart from the drug (or alcohol)

If you guys only new how many people on forbes list smoked weed. Some people tend to blame the drug maybe its the will power that is the problem.

But then you have the counter argument that the drug of choice is actually self-medication for some other problem and therefore a symptom not the cause.

That is such a cliche, with so many variations. care to out anyone?

The only public figure I've ever seen being out there and proud about his drug use is Nandor Tanczos, and unlikey Member of Parliament.

    Now, why aren't the others?

How many movie stars have taken a misdemeanor for pot?

    I think that's enough examples. :)

I've worked in the biggest of big companies. Pot is not your problem Cocaine, heroin and meth are. Trust me honey, I've seen heroine on the desks of corporate raiders. I have no intention of outting anyone or any company though. We're talking fortune 100 here too.

Pot, you gotta be kidding, they have to have it to come down. LOL

Thank you noppid, I agree... everyone is always bitching about pot when its alchohal and coke ect.. that are the real problem.. I said alot of successfull people smoke weed I didn't say they were telling everyone about it. More people die from driving and talking on there cell phone then anything weed related. Do we really need to go over this. The majority of religous kooks that say weed is wrong are morons and have more than likely never smoked, however I am sure they drink once and awhile.

Ok, I know I've said before that I have yet to be offended in this forum - and until now, that was true.

First of all, "the majority of religious kooks that say weed is wrong are morons..."

Just because you say weed is wrong, doesn't mean you are a religious kook. I am not religious at all but I still believe it is unnecessary. As I stated before, it almost ruined my marriage.

Secondly, "...have more than likely never smoked..."
I used to smoke pot a little when I was younger. I am ashamed of it and would never have done it if I knew then what I know now.

Alcohol and drug abuse is a problem, but it is the whole picture that the government is trying to deal with - crime! And currently, possession of pot is a crime. That's why there are l-a-w-s!

I know that you are entitled to your opinion, as I am and everyone else in this forum...but calling people morons goes beyond the code of ethics.

And these 'successful people' that you know smoke pot - how 'successful' are they going to be 20 years from now when they are practically brain dead? Or in jail? Or isolated from their family and friends?

I'm not preaching to anybody that smokes pot to quit. Personally, I think that it's their own business. But to insult people who do not believe in it is just plain rude.

Like alot of substances: sugar, caffeine, fat, alchohol, amphetamines, prescriptive drugs..

Constant and longterm use are what cause the problems. As far as I am concerned weed is generally a lesser evil than most (with the occasional exception - pyschosis, paranoia etc). More people die each year from caffeine OD than cannabis + I have never seen anyone smoke a spliff/blunt/bong then go out and pick a fight ;)

Get off your high horse. These people are already successful.

Not all alcohol drinkers abuse alcohol and not all pot smoker abuse pot.

Infact there are plenty of publicly successful people that are known to be alcoholics and are still sucessful.

Nice try though, but I'm not buying that crap. I shouldn't be regulated because "you" have a problem with addiction. Addiction comes in many forms, I bet you have one in your life right now that you'd be better off without perhaps?

    Ever hear of moderation?

I never said those people weren't successful. I asked how successful they would be 20 years from now if they continued their addiction.

And I don't have an addiction. My husband did. But now that he's quit pot, he's a totally different person. He's happier and we're happier when we're around him.

I guess you could say I'm addicted to chocolate, but that would be it.

Instead of decriminalizing marijuana altogether, maybe they should put limits on it like alcohol. No smoking in public, no driving while under the influence...

I was merely trying to say that calling people "Morons" was inappropriate and uncalled for. I wasn't trying to put myself on a pedestal. I am the last person who would try to give off a 'holier than thou' impression.

But like I said before, we all have our opinions...it just sucks that we have to be attacked if our opinion is different than someone else's.

Thanks by the way, for saying my opinion is crap. I could be just as rude and say yours is crap also, but I would rather not stoop to your level. :)

You just did, like a three year old in fact. But that's ok. :)

I did not call your opinion crap. I stated that regulating me because you or someone else has an addiction to protect me is crap. I don't need that kind of protection. I'm not to be looked down upon as incapable of making an informed decision on my own. I resent that "big brother" mentality.

Smoking pot is not a right. Therefore, society has the responsibility to enact rules govering the behavior of society as a whole. In this case, we've delegated that authority to our goverment. If the majority decides that smoking pot should be ok, then society has the privledge of changing the rules to allow something which it previously disallowed.

I don't really care if it's legalized. I think that if it is, that it should be strictly regulated just as tobacco and alcohol are regulated. The tax income to the state would be good as well as the lowering of crime as we would not be sending people to prison for these offenses any longer. But I don't think it should be something you can do anytime or anywhere.

    Just my two cents worth

I know I did, I was just trying to prove a point. :)

    Ummm....yeah you did. Remember this?

I guess the moral of the story is, don't voice your opinion if you're looking to get flamed...even if your opinion was requested by someone who genuinely wanted to hear it.
