Hi everyone, I need a bit of advice before I start some work on my largest site. Here's my question.... Is it better to keep pages in my site that get little to no views just to keep the site large. Or just to stick with the higher viewed pages? Here's a little background on this site. My site is about 7 years old and ranks in the top Google searches for a lot of it's keywords. I average 70,000+ hits a month. The site is about 150 pages. And this is where my question comes in. About 100 of those pages gets the most page views. And the rest get minimal if any views. Should I start weeding those bad pages out? Or is it better to just keep them as they make the site larger with extended content. Also, if I do remove some of those pages, will this hurt me in with the search engines? Ever since I made some changes awhile back, causing Google to drop my site for 2 months I'm scared to do much. But I feel the site is so bulky. And why keep pages no one goes to? Any advice would be great. Thanks all!!!
I read somewhere that the number of pages in a website is relative to the maximum pagerank you can have. So yes, keep them.
Personally, I think it really depends on the backlinks you have to them, and how much the keywords used on your site effect those pages. If those pages are vital to that (although deleting any pages can/will drop your backlinks and possibly traffic even if minimal), then it's a definite no. I mean, if they are not needed at all and you're having trouble keeping up with 150-page site, then I'd wed out a few here and there (but not a lot at a time if you do). Otherwise, I'd say leave it. All traffic helps, and if you're worried about dropping your rank on Google, don't worry about it, unless, like I said it is too much to maintain and you want to open room on your hosting server. That's just me personally from what I've seen and dealt with, but I'm not more than an amateur when it comes to SEO and all that jazz. Heh.
