Hello, We have several products and services we sell through our website (based in the UK). There is a growing market for our services in the Middle East, Russia, Singapore and India. Wouls it be 'best practice' to set up a website in each country (using that countries extension of .co.in, .co.me, etc...)? I want to rank in Google for our products in each country, but if they use Google for their country, I don't have a chance. I would assume that I could just use WordPress and duplicate the site quite easily and just copy it to each domain I purchase. Am I over thinking this, or am I correct in this thinking? Thanks! -Dave
You could either use a country extension or you could use a subdomain, depending on your budget. Either ways, i think it depends on the backlinks you get from the country specific url's. besides did you check on your rankings for the specified countries? You could add other phrases like "Hot selling {productname} in India" and so on.
Hello, What is the process for checking the rankings? Is there a benefit to using subdomains vs new domains? Initially I was thinking of something like 'keywordrichURL.co.in', 'keywordrichULR.me', etc..... Maybe I am going down the wrong route? Cheers, Dave
Just go the country specific Google and do a couple of searches and see where you rank. (Use traffictravis free version to make things simpler) If your site ranks for that very same keyword in Google.com then chances are that it would be listed albeit not in the same ranking position however. subdomains like it/in/etc does help. From my own experience, in a highly competitive niche, my subdomains outrank other EMD.countryleveldomains In regards to benefits, bear in mind that you'll be working on an entirely new domain, so you will have to kind of start from scratch, so to speak. In other words it will only take a bit longer than usual to get your site ranked as compared to a subdomain. Again it boils down to the budget.. if you have money to spare then yes do invest in an EMD.in kind of domains. P.S: While it's inconclusive, some say having a subfolder is better than creating a subdomain.. but the debate only continues.
It sounds like I need to do some homework.... BTW, what is EDM? Thanks for the help and I apologise for the 'basic' questions. Cheers, Dave
Sub-domain or sub-folder is not a matter of debate here. OP's main concern is "Country Specific" rankings for his website and that's the reason he is thinking about setting up a country specific domain such as .in, .it etc. I don't think i have relevant experience to put my point in favor of duplicating a website using word press or any other content management system but i know there must be a way around this. because Google itself uses country specific domains such as Google.com, Google.in etc.
