There are lots and lots of domain & website marketplaces around and its very hard to gain the trust of new users over the big players.

Many people have tried this before and failed, you really need to do something different to make yourself stand out!

Have a look at Sitepoint, DP, Sedo, talkfreelance etc.. they all have a trustworthy user base

Good Luck, but to to be competitive in that market you need to try something new!

    Yes it is.

Fees do not make or break you. Success does. Find a way to promote your auctions so the sellers get more bids, and sales. The rest will fall into place.

doing a site for that would not be hard. you can spend some money on designing and scripts or get everything custom coded. main thing is marketing as there are lots of sites like that out there. if yuo want to make money form a site like that, then you have to have some good adversiting budged and an unique site providing good service to people. without making a difference or adding an extra value, its hard to get in to a highly competitive niche

One of the keys to competing in a competitive niche is buying, or making, other puzzle pieces so you make a mini network of sister sites offering things people would be interested in. Then driving traffic to that network.

This adds value as you have all the puzzle pieces. Then you can win over people since they are dealing with ONE COMPANY and not a dozen.

Also you can cross market across all the brands. Much easier, and cheaper.
