Hi, Recently I got around to buy a fairly large website (well according to my standards anyway), generating around 10k pageviews daily. Perhaps it is important to note that the previous user did not use Adsense, because of some problems he'd had with it ages ago when the website initially started. Nevertheless after doing some research I found out that I am not really getting good value for my clicks from the other networks. So now I do have my account ready, but I have couple of questions regarding the placement of the ads and also the traffic volume. Firstly the website never had ads on the homepage or pages often linked to (a lot of pages are dynamically generated and may not be valid for long, so even if a user would come through an inbound link, he would be most likely redirected to the homepage) I do believe this is one of the reasons that the CTR is quite high and I would like to keep it that way. My question thus is, will it be problematic with Adsense that most of the traffic through the ads will seem to have originated from my homepage? Secondly the website as I said is doing fairly well, the domain is over 5 years old, the website around 3, will it be problem if I sign up with Adsense and immediately a substantial amount of traffic will start going through (hopefully)? Many thanks
Most of the clicks coming from the home page shouldn't be a problem at all. I myself own a website with ads only on the home page and Google doesn't seem to have a problem with it. There is also no problem with immediate traffic once you sign up for Adsense. Most people only implement ads into their website when they're happy with their traffic anyway.
The problem is that the traffic won't come from the homepage, but from a page accessible only from a homepage. So just to very simplistically illustrate: user comes to index.php (and no ads are displayed there) and than clicks on randomly generated link random-name-1.php, and there he may click on the ad. So the referrer will almost always be set to mydomain.com/something... And that I believe could be perceived by the filters as artificially generated traffic. Needless to say, it did not cause almost any problems with the other ad networks, but from what I've heard they seem to be a little more relaxed about these things.
It should be fine, take a read through the Adsense Terms just to be safe but as long as your Adsense placement is within the rules it shouldn't matter that the page is dynamic.
Index, Contact Us and Portfolio page must be first impression to any visitors of website. If you apply andsence then make sure this thing is done so you can get good visitors with business.
