so i just made a website that will maybe get %1 traffic from SE's if i am lucky. Is there a way to get across to a lot of people preferabbly without ppc programs. like myspace maybe?

Look for places like myspace, there's at least 20 of them. There's also other methods. See the article Chrissurfrider

actually, I would think the SE should provide the major traffic. that is a healthy way for the long term.

That's the best way definitely.... Unfortunately, you're always sweating under the shadow of the next update and its impact on your SERPs. :(

as long as you follow ethical rules for SEO, I don't see any major impacts to website SERPs by SE updates.

That's fine on your end. The problem is you can't control your competitors. I've seen one of the site I consult for go from 200K USD a year to 85K USD due to its competitors' surge in SERPS.
