    Hello All,

I am trying to transfer my hosting to a new provider.

Firstly my domain name is not registered through either one of these hosting companies.

So basically they are three unrelated entities i'm working with here.

Now i was told that i should point the name server of my 3rd party domain registry to the new hosting provider from my current hosting provider then
request of my current host a complete website backup with my domain pointed to the new hosting company....

By doing this i was told that my current hosting company would dump my entire website backup to the new hosting company is this scenario correct??

I have never done this before so i just want to make sure i have the right information.

    Thanks:)

Chances are your existing hosting company won't help you move, because they're losing you as a customer.

Here's the basic process of what you need to do:

    1) Backup everything on your old hosting account and save it to your local computer. You can do this via FTP if you just have simple sites, if you have databases or more advanced features there's more work involved (dumping the databases, etc).

    2) Create your hosting account at your new hosting provider. They will email you the name servers for their company.

    3) Go to your domain registrar and update your domain to use the name servers provided to you by your new hosting company.

    4) Wait about 24-48 hours (that's how long NS changes take to spread across the web)

    5) Go to your new hosting account and upload all of your files, databases, etc. You can do this while the NS's are updating if you have a cPanel account or FTP access.

    6) Once everything is setup and moved, go back to your original hosting provider and cancel your account (always do this last in case something is missing or you don't like your new provider, etc).

Some hosting companies will actually help you move your files from your old company to their servers. We do this all the time for customers and it's generally faster than doing it yourself.

    1. You take backup of your site from the current host ( loosing web host) ( take backup of website and also the DB) - you current host may not do this but still check with them.
    2. Setup a plan with new web host. they may provide you 2-3 name servers. update this on your domain name control ( your domain registrar)
    3. Provide this backup to new web host, they must be able to restore and setup site. Nowadays this happens but still if they do not do. You could do FTP to your new web host plan and setup the DB your self.

If you are not comfortable on transfer you may need to take some techie help.
