I am starting up a new site and I am going to want to add some type of JAVA tracking info to the site so I know where people come from, what they searched for, etc... What site do you guys recommend using for this?

    Google analytics is the best.
Your web hosting company may already providing you with tools such as awstats or webalizer to view your stats.
    Check that out too.

For webstat tracking we use http://www.web-stat.com for some web sites. It isn't free, but we like stats they show. And they are precise, some stat services just don't show some of your visitors.

I much prefer statcounter to google analytics, for the ability to trace individual visitors, and how they found my site, and how they moved around it. And in real time.

the downside with tracking with javasnippet is that many block this, recommend you to use a stat program that provide stats from server logs in addition.
