Website Statistics

    Hi Guys,

I've spent many years dabbling in the use of the internet and building basic websites, and during this time, I have always wondered, is it worth building that idea into a website. To try and track down some degree of understanding, I've always been curious of the best ways to identify the searches done for similar key words, phrases or websites.

What I want to know as I've not done this in a while, is
    - Are website statistics publicly available, beyond Alexis?
    - Also how can I check the amount of searches performed on Google, with key words I'd like to use?

    Any help would be useful.

    Regards,
    Sycrid

Google Analytics and Webmaster tools show you how much traffic your site is getting, where the traffic comes from, bounce rate, what keywords the site is ranking for in the search engines, etc.

The Google keyword planner roughly shows you if keywords are getting any monthly search volume and how much. If you want a really good paid tool that gives these estimates, Long Tail Pro is excellent.

I use Google keyword planner too - it is here https://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner

It is easy to get statistics for your own website - e.g. Google Analytics as mentioned, but for third party websites, this is not that easy. There are various services and methods how to estimate traffic or value of a website. Besides Alexa, you can try moz.com, they do have free accounts, which are good enough. Then maybe www.semrush.com.

Thanks ODT. I didn't know about MOZ, but it seems to be getting mentioned a lot across the forums I use, so it's certainly worth looking into.

Bing's keyword research tool may come handy too: http://www.bing.com/toolbox/keywords
