I work for a company that sells homes. Here are the analytics of our users. I hope this helps a designer out there to remember the older folks are not using huge resolutions. http://img23.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=15792_users_122_1117lo.jpg Enjoy
When I first read this...I was like "SAY WHA?"..haha This makes complete sense though. As most older adults aren't as tech savvy or gadget crazy as most of the younger generation. In other words, they don't have to have the latest and greatest LCD panel to be happy. As long as they can be productive with what they have, they're content. This is sad, but to just give you one example my parents still use an hold P2 HP computer, with a crappy 15" monitor. BUT, then again they only use it for email, and typing simple word documents, so really and truely they don't need anything more powerful, and are happily using it until it just dies. Of course, I go home and cringe everytime I see the damn thing, matter of fact I'm tempted to get a nice little LCD off Ebay for them or something and just give that to them for christmas so it'd give me an excuse to throw the old one in the fireplace.
Also, this may sound weird, but 22% of their visitors are on dial up! I thought dial up died years ago?!
Whilst it is good for a company to review the demographics of their own customers I am not sure what value it has to a wider audiance? The W3C website has a lot of stats for the market as a whole which is useful and there are certainly plenty of companies that do studies on specific demographics - though their charges for reports can feel a bit steep
