In a continuing effort to better my site http://www.financenewstoday.com I have created a somewhat new design at http://www.financenewstoday.com/newindex.php. The biggest difference is the size of the page. I moved most of the coding to CSS and moved content up in the code through div tags. Please tell me what you think, good or bad. This is by no means done as I intend to make some changes to the bottom content as well. Also, I would like some help with adsense placement. Any thoughts on better spots that would blend in well with the layout.
very nice site, google adds blend in nocely, although maybe too nicely.. perhaps you could put them a little higher
Overall a very clean design. Just have a few suggestions. I would ditch the textlink ads at the top of the home page. They kind of set the vibe that it's another adsense site and I think will cause a lot of visitors to immediately close the window. The image ad in the top right works well, but you might consider banning that 'Working Girls Guide' ad, the first thing I thought when I saw that picture was prostitute. Also on the RSS feed from fool.com, I'd have those open in a new window. What keywords are you targetting? Would you mind returning the favor on my thread? http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=150137
a couple more suggestions. 1) You should link your logo to go to your home page. 2) Its hard to tell from your code but it looks like your logo is saved as a jpg. Because you have so much text in it I would save it as a .gif 64 or 128 gif instead (play around with both to get the best size for quality. Cheers John
Thank you both for your input. Trilitech, I am new to working with Google image ads. How do I block a certain ad? The main keywords I am trying to rank on the Homepage for is Personal Finance, Personal Finance Tips, and Finance News Today (my brand). Inside pages rank for different terms. Johnner, the image at the top is loaded as a background for the <div id="header"> box from my CSS file. The size is 97x800. The is loaded from the page code over the background. I am tinkering with a new header/logo that will the logo and a h1 tag to the homepage. If I do I may drop the HOME link from the top or bottom navigation bar.
