Has anyone tried raffle for their websites to increase traffic to their websites? I was thinking of spending about $160 to either give away a nintendo DSI or 8 $20 giftcards.

each raffle ticket would be obtained by a "point system" - as an example: 1 entry per referral and 1 entry per 10 things submitted to my website

has anyone tried anything like this before?

How does a raffle like this compare to spending the same amount on advertising via banner ads

I have never tried this. I have common senese, and you combine that with marketing experience, and it will tell you that many who come in will be vying for the free stuff. Once it is over, they are all gone.

People come and then stay for the good info. Not for the free shit.

And of you have a good site already, you do not need to do this.

Try it. You will see for yourself.

better to give away digital goods cuz raffling money might get you in trouble with local anti-gambling/lottery laws.
