What's the easiest way to promote a website with no money (free). I am dead broke, but would like more visitors to my site. I can't seem to get people to visit my site.
Have you considered joining the ad co-op? Start an ongoing link building campaign. Be sure to submit site to DMOZ and other free directories. Building links takes time. Keep adding fresh content. If you did not do keyword research to begin with, be sure to do so using Shawn's keyword tool. Make sure keywords appear in page title, description and H1. You may have to rename your pages which will result in in changes in SERPs but ultimately you want to have your pages associated with the right keywords. Add signature to your posting (you may have one, I did not notice.) Good luck, S
Here are a few ideas you might check into... Viral Marketing [Freebie from your website] Search Engine Optimization Niche Directories Online Communities [Forums, Blogs, etc.] Free Reprint Articles Banner/Link Exchange [Coop Ad Network, etc.] RSS Feeds [Syndicating Content] Press Releases [PRLeap, etc.] Internet Yellow Pages Email Marketing eSignatures [Forums, email, etc.] Directory Listings [DMOZ, etc.] Free Online Classifieds Offline Strategies [URL promotion, etc.]
Many/ most Press release sites allow you to submit your own press releases, for example you can use it to launch a new product, new company etc etc. The more press releases you do, it seems the better results - it gets listed higher on their pages. I did one a couple of months ago and it did give me a little boost - when we were still sandboxed by Google, a few people where finding us when the press release came up in search results. I keep intending to do some more but time never allows lately. There are not difficult to write - there are certain guidelines to follow. http://www.prweb.com/pressreleasetips.php
Free publicity is the way to go. Build a blog that focuses around your website topic, and only link to your website. Then submit the rss feed from the blog to the 1000+ sites out there that let you list it, you'll have free traffic almost daily if you write good content. Then setup link exchanges with you blog to other sites that focus around the same topic. If you get 10-15 link exchanges setup and have daily content you'll get a huge PR boost, which you can then funnel onto your main site. The key here is relevancy, only exchange links for sites that are relevant to your site.
use search engines for your target phrases and contact people who are ranking for those sites. get links anyway you can. relevant or not. get linked.
My number one suggestion would be to DO every single thing that has been suggested in this thread. Not just agree with it, nod at it, make a note of it... but DO it. That should keep you busy for 2-3 months, anyway - and be good for LOTS of new visitors And I'll add one to the list: Go where your targeted market can be found online in masses. Email discussion groups, forums, gaming rooms etc and MAKE FRIENDS. Network a bit, get the word out, but without being promotional. Make some good contacts in the industry that will later talk about you to their own groups & fellow geeks.
