Are you graduating with a degree and need to write a paper on website promotion or something? Not really sure what / why you're asking. Its also spelled license.

Here is a few keywords to help you, AdWords (Pay per click advertising), press releases, forum signatures, directories, link bait articles, word-of-mouth, classifieds, banners (online), blogging, search engine marketing (non-paying), online communities (i.e., myspace, digg etc), viral videos, spam (hehe) and some times a lot of luck.

BTW, having a good product/service that you are promoting with a website also helps a lot :)

PS: there are probably more methods but that's all of them I can think off at the top of my head.

I don't know the easiest way to get what you are looking for, but what I would love to see is a "best of Digital Point" pdf paper. You could sort through the most-read posts and most positively received advice and arrange it in a straightforward way.

It could easily be argued that DP is a better living document than even wikipedia. Will you post a link to your paper back here when you are done?
