Website Profit Claims

    Hello,

I bought a website on eBay for $5k.
The seller originally stated that it makes around $4k per month. It's been about 2 weeks and I only made $200 so far. When I contacted him, he said that it is due to my lack of marketing skills.

So I was wondering if there is anything I can do legally?

    I would appreciate any input.

    Thanks.

If he sold a product on ebay stating that it was making $4K with no effort, then yes, go back to ebay as they have fraudulantly decepted you, HOWEVER, if it states that you need to market the site to acheive the $4k per month then nothing you can do. Alot sites on ebay claim to say you make 1,000s and even provide screen shots of their own sites, but this is to only draw you in, read the small print. To be honest, who in the right mind would sell a site making $4k a month for $5k, you must of heard the saying "if its too good to be true, it probably is" if the revenue was truly $4k a month you would be expected to pay around $32K-$40K for it (8x-10x - the revenue).

Yea, no one will sell a $4k per month revenue generating site on that cost, better try out to find how you can recover the cost at earliest.

Why would someone sell a site that is making $4k a month for $5k? Instead of just sitting with it for six months or so until it makes $25,000 he decides to give it away for 5k? I don't think there is anything you can do because it is your own causing that you purchased it.

However 200$ in 2 weeks is not bad at all, you may just have to optimise it and you should easily be able to improve that amount to well above 1-2k. How to optimise it depends on how the site is making money. If it is through ads then you can do so by optimising your ad channels and providers.

Mind telling us what the site is, making $400 a month you will get a buyer on DP for sure, but, probably only for around $3-$4K.
