I'm a beginner to making websites, can anyone explain what a website press release is and should every website do it? My websites are just content i.e. not about selling stuff. Is this press release a free thing?

a press release is basicly a article writen about your site or blog, usually promoting your service products or your content.

Press releases can be written by your own. not recomended, you better hire a professional PressRelease writer.
once its written you can submit it to free (or paid) PressRelease directories

there is no restriction that a press release can only be written by websites selling something...........you can write and submit to many press release articles..........

Any website, company or individual can submit a press release. For a website a junk press release may help a tiny bit. If you actually have something newsworthy to say, that press release can help much, much more.

You should focus on content and link building if your serious about your new site. If you get in a big hurry to get traffic before your site is ready for it then visitors will leave in a hurry and probably not come back. Worse yet, they may post negative reviews of your site. Spend a few months putting up fresh unique content and then start your marketing efforts which should include at least 1 press release to announce your site to the world.

It should be highly optimized to your keywords and you should submit it to as many sites as possible.

Dont bother so much about press release, make your site structure better and build links for it, join social bookmarking sites.....in all go for a good SEO process

I joined a book marking site recently to find out what it's about but I'm still a little confused, do I just post my website url's and somehow people see them? Is there supposed to be something else I do on it?

A press release is a way to show the world about new launched product or services. This will help people know through search engines and PR sites about your site.Submit your press release in your site and then submit your sitemap to Google. Then start submitting them to PR sites.
I dint had a look at your site so i cant give you an exact answer.
Get back soon with your site details.

If you have made a new website or added a new section to it or done something valuable that you think is worth sharing and announcing, then you should write a press release. Once written, submit it to press release sites.

Thanks for the link, I get the feeling a press release would not suit my site, probly my blog saying what new things have happened is enough :)
