website not ranking for keywords

I was running this offer on PPC and doing pretty well and after I found the keywords that were converting I had a blog written based on the keywords. It's been 5 months and I'm not ranking for the keyword phrase I was wanting. I checked 20 pages in google based on the search term (broad match) and I couldn't find my site. When I type the keyword phrase into Google with a phrase match, I get 1,550,000 search results. Broad match has 1,720,000.

Is it going to be tough to rank for this phrase? I don't have any experience ranking websites for keywords. I mostly work with PPC but, I still read about SEO and try to keep up with how it works.

I've already spent $400 on this site (design, content, links) and not sure if I should keep spending, should I get more articles for content? So far it has 30 articles. I had bought a daily blog service where I had a new article written daily. I had also purchased a 1000 backlink package and social bookmarking package.

I've only had 1700 uniques since I started the site back in October.

I'm wondering if I should sell the site, somebody e-mailed me yesterday that's interested in purchasing it. I made about $20K gross in PPC and I would think that if I could get the site to rank for the keyword phrase that is bringing sales in PPC, that I should be able to do pretty well in SEO. I've only had 3 comments on the blog but they have been positive people like the content and want more articles. If you think I should sell the site, how much do you think I should offer?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

You just need to keep building backlinks with your anchor text. Also in Google when a domain name is new sometimes it gets tossed into the "sandbox" for about a year then you will come out.

If you want to Pm the URL I will see if I notice anything obvious that is wrong with it.

so you don't think the site needs more content? just link building? I don't like doing my own link building so I always outsource, how many links per week do you think I should put my orders in for? I don't want to get too many links too quickly since I don't want google to think it's a spam site or anything.

how about if I put in an order for 100 directory submits per week?

also what about inbound links I understand they weigh heavily but, what should I try to do just find sites in my niche and e-mail them ask them to link to my site? I doubt I'll get many responses.

    Thanks

I guess my decision to continue working on this website would depend on how hard it would be to get into the top 10 in this niche.

With link building, article submits, quality content, how hard do you think it would be to get into the top 10 in this niche:

Google with a phrase match, I get 1,550,000 search results. Broad match has 1,720,000.

    Thanks

Does anybody think this would be a good investment? It's going to end up costing me probably about $300 a month to continue this project. Maybe more. I think if I go through with it I should have the writer write more articles as well, and build a base of "customers". As I'm getting positive comments so people do like the site. I have seen results in PPC and when I built this blog it was based on the keyword conversions. So it seems I have some concrete data that would state if I was to get into the top 10 in this niche that I should do well correct? I already know that I'm making money in this niche, so it isn't like I'm taking a chance wondering if the niche is profitable or not.

The only thing I'm worried about is investing into this project and then I don't get into the top 10. I have never SEO'd a site before.

Organic link building: article marketing, free directories etc. Make sure each site article is on a unique, optimized page.
