I want to set-up a blog or website to showcase my writing service. I have a couple questions that I am hoping that other DP members can answer.

    1. What blog platform is best for this?

    2. Do you have a blog/website that I can view? (Just looking for design ideas)

    3. Do you post your rates on your blog/website or ask those who are interested to contact you for further information?

    4. Domain name? (this seems to be the hardest part)

If any of you have answers for me. Please do so without any degrading or yelling. I understand that we are writers and critiquing happens to be in our blood just be nice. LOL

    Thanks in advance

1] Wordpress all the way. But blogger is easier to manage. Name.com provides a RapidBlog service that is worth considering.
3] It would be best to ask them to contact you. As different assignments vary greatly in difficulty.
4] Your name related, or "Insert quality that you want to be known for"+writer. For example I want to be known as a funny writer, so I buy humorouswriter.com.

I have just started playing around with Wordpress and I like it a lot. One thing that you could consider is buying one of the domains/databases that someone might put up on the sites to sell here on DP.

The name really all depends on what kind of theme the articles are going to be centered around and what type of audience you are wanting to attract. It's always best getting popular keywords that show up in the search engine if you want it to be around a article theme. I must say that when you purchase a website that is already done, you won't have to worry about this problem! lol.

    Best of luck to you.

Wordpress is the best. But getting a good theme which suits the theme is very tough.

    1. Wordpress definitely.

    2. Several - in my sig.

    3. Yes. Posting rates weeds out those who can't afford you. Over the years I've found that when rates are posted, more business comes in and less time is wasted giving quotes to people who aren't really in your target market anyway. On top of that, it's about making things easier on prospective clients. If your competitors list their portfolio and rates, the client knows exactly what they're getting. If you don't do the same, you aren't directly comparable without first forcing the potential buyer to take more time out of their day to contact you for a quote. If you want to allow rates to vary a bit, post a range or an average (and clearly mark those rates as such on your site). Those who want a more customized quote will still contact you. Those who want the information right away will have it.

    4. PCnames.com used to have a great word search tool for domains. It was outdated and pulled though. Not sure if it's back up yet. If so, try it out. You put in a word and it gives you possible domains, and I've found it to be much better than other domain generation tools. You could always just go with a variation on your name. It's less about the domain and more about what name you want to market yourself under. Make the domain relevant to your branding.

You're not allowed to give away freebie services in discussion threads either. Closing the thread since it's getting off-track. If you want to offer services for free, please mention it in the freebies forum here.
