Let say I have a job portal. I am wondering how much it can cost to develop a simple application website for mobile phone so users can get list of job vacancies from job portal database through mobile. What programming language is using for mobile websites? Is any huge difference? Tnx
I am almost 100% sure that all .Net translates to mobile very well. I worked on a few websites in .Net that were made for mobile, and without any coding changes, they looked very nice.
I've always just used very basic HTML and limited CSS with limited graphics. E.g., stick to lists, tables and header tags then let the phone itself render it in the appropriate size. Once you've gotten the basics down, then go for the gold and build a nice interface for the iphone. ;-) Keep in mind that Opera Mini (the mobile browser) is installed on a ton of phones and does a great job of rendering complex HTML/CSS too. Just keep the file sizes limited so your users aren't sitting there downloading a ton of stuff.
.Net does have specific mobile components which know the capabilities of "all" phones and so will render to their capabilities (a little difficult to explain quickly unless you know how .Net works with its controls) Other than that it is very much a case of making sure it is text rather than image based, javascript to an absolute minimum etc.

There are becoming increasingly few sites now that are specifically for phones (hence the lack of WAP sites now). Phones are catching up and now can cope with so many real sites, that designers simply stopped making sites specifically for phones. So just keep it simple and it will be fine.
Would say the exact opposite is true. Certainly WAP is significantly reducing but the number of sites with simplified layouts etc that mobile phone users are automatically redirected to is growing - Google currently has a beta search engine specifically for all these sites.
