Hey Yall Im a newbie here Hope this is the right thread to post my queries. I have problems trying to do up a project scope/proposal for a website. How do I estimate or quote a website? Much appreciated CHEERS
It's more difficult I think if you're new to designing sites since you have to estimate how much time you'll be spending. This should get easier as you gain experience, but for now - figure out the scope of the project after some initial discussions with your client. What is your estimation of the amount of time the project will take? You have to first determine what the value of your time is obviously and be sure before quoting that you factor in all the various tasks. Meeting with clients, research, actual building of the website, testing, costs you incur... etc. Try to come up with a number and a timeline that is realistic. This may seem difficult at first, but the only real way to get a better handle on how much time you will spend is by doing and learning though experience. Good luck with your project.
little confused as to why this is posted in the legal advice section? there is no legally required method of calculating an estimate so you can do it as you see fit. Generally we would break the project down into its individual parts and estimate how many hours each part will take to design, build and test. Add it all back up together, add a contingency and project management time (both tend to be percentages of build time). After you have the time it will take to do it then times this by your hourly rate to give you the price and then add sales tax if you are required to do so. In your proposal you need to be very clear of what is in and out of scope for your estimate
A quote alone is very simple to write.... a list of things that you will deliver (in scope) and a list of things you wont deliver (out of scope) and a price with your payment terms. You can elaborate on it slightly by including "optional extras" or offer to move some of the out of scope items into scope. Proposals, which estimates are often merged with, are more difficult to write but should include (in my view) a synopsis of the clients request (to ensure you have got it right), what you intend to create and how it will meet the clients needs, any key risks, issues or dependencies that you see, high level plan for delivery (normally with +days/ weeks/ months rather than set dates as you dont know the commencement date) and it isnt bad to include a little sales pitch about yourself/ your company
Thanks Astar I dont know if this is too much to ask but am I able to see an example of this please? I will show what I have done in the past but still havnt mastered it. Many thanks in advance CHEERS
