Website downtime and google

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had a site which was ranking well in google but suffered from some down time (around 48 hours) and how long it took to get back.

Basically, one of my sites which ranked well in google was down for 48 hours, yesterday on checking the main index page is no longer cached so rankings have vanished.

Has this happened to you, did it take long to come back, did you just rank where you were ranking etc.

Just wondering how google will deal with this situation and whether ranking where you used to be is easy enough to get back.

    JP

if google visits your site while your site is down, you can loose your ranking.;)

Yes, you may loose ranking but since you don't loose PR and trust for one downtime the drop will be only temporary.

it happened to me recently, it took a week for position to get back but I think it is still not the same as it used to, I'm getting just a little less visitors then I used to and it has been more then 2 weeks now when the downtime happened

First make sure you get a reliable host so it doesn't happen again. Second: build some quality links to speed up on google finding out the site is alive and kicking.

It's the first propper downtime I've had with my host in nearly 3 years being with them so they are not doing to bad :)

Links I've been doing and also adding some fresh content. Thanks for the info.

How long has your site existed? If it has been around for more than a couple of months, it will bounce back. Don't worry. :)
