Soo............last PR update (jan '09), one site ended up going from PR 3 to 4, not a huge jump.

But............last thursday, my server went down and only in the last few days have I begun to get things back to normal, and my rank has dropped to a two...

anyone else ever experienced anything like this??

what does it mean?? googles cache is still showing the old pages, so I don't think its been crawled recently??

just wait i think.. just so happened that your site was down.. it should be back in rankings... this happened to me before.. google update.. got my PR.. and my server went down for days.. then suddenly lost my ranking... and the pages that was indexed was the old ones.. for about one or two weeks when my site was up and running again got my rankings back up... dont think it will be a major problem.. just sit tight and relax.. make sure your site is up and running...

The pr of many sites will fluctuate from one pr update to another so you should not
be concerned about this, you should continue to build backlinks.

    thats not really the problem.....

With the most recent PR update, I went to PR 4, then my server died, now I'm PR2, within a couple of days of the original PR update.

Hope you understand what I mean!

Does it also affects your regular and organic traffic?

If your website gets deindexed cause of the downtime, then once reindexed you PR will show up again ;)

Thats good to hear! IEMAILER. The website does not appear to be deindexed though. Organic/search traffic so far has returned to normal after the downtime

I think this is just an aberration. Your PR would be back to 4 as soon as normalcy returns to your site as well to the Google.....

Lots of frequent changes to many sites in their rankings over last couple of days..

I've had a couple of sites lose pagerank recently - mostly sites that haven't had many updates or new links built to them. No change in traffic though from search engines, so I'n not that bothered - it's just a wake-up call to build some new links.

    Are you referring to SERP?

If you are then you shouldn't be surprise since lots of webmasters are competing on certain keywords.

Just because Cache hasn't been updated that doesn't mean that the site wasn't visited by Google.

But after a couple of months you will probably be back to normal.

Yeah, that happened to one of my sites too. Stupid company changed DNS on me and site was down for 2 days, now it is gone from a top position. Good to know it will come back soon. Anyway to speed that up?

    Hey nethead.......

Nothing has changed. Google has indexed a grand total of 2 pages.

Sitemap is still showing 416 errors with "problem detected on" staying at about Jan 8 to Jan 12. I am now getting hundreds of not found errors, and a few redirect errors as well. All of the links are working just fine when I visit them from G webmaster tools, so I don't have the slightest clue what is going on now. If I do a site:www.blahblahblah, Google returns most of my pages, but the results returned are from prior to the server crash, with a few from after the crash showing up as well.

I'm wonder if it has something to do with the actual path that google follows to get to the files in this site, and maybe it is still attempting to use the path to the previous server and host. I don't know. It has happened to more than one of my sites that went down that day, so at this point I'm thinking that the loss of serps and PR has more to do with my server going down than anything else.

Another interesting note..........of the sites that I had hosted on this particular server, two of them did not have sitemaps, and those are the only two that werent affected by the server going down.

It gets stranger everyday, believe me!!

    Try checking on different datacenters.
