Just had a basic question I'm hoping you guys may be able to help me out with. I'm in the process of purchasing a website design from a company (there's alot to it and it's costing me a few hundred dollars). Let's say this website sells widgets in a specific region. I'd like to use this same website desing to sell widgets in another region (lets say north and south). My goal is to just modify the logo and a small bit of content and use the same design I'm purchasing for this other domain. Does the purchaser typically own the rights to the design to use elsewhere or would I have to pay additional cost to use this design on other sites of mine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Most companies do own rights to their custom made web design. I'd say they would start to email you and will not be happy at all, especially if you are in the same niche...
Depends on the design shop. Usually if they create a custom design for you, you get the rights to it; however, they may require a stricter license which means you don't get the rights. Better to ask now to make sure.
