Hi guys, i recently purchased dreamweaver CS3, but am completely new to website design and am a total beginner, so my question is, are there any books or ebooks that you recommend me buying to help me? or is there any great websites for newbies like me? maybe a DVD? any advise would be appreciated.

I agree with Nosfer.. I also don't really see any advantages of using Dreamweaver, you can do everything with Notepad. :)

Learn how to code properly first so that dreamweaver doesnt own you is my advice.

Code to W3C standards and accessibility and semantic coding also.

As long as you don't EVER use "Design View", then Dreamweaver is a great program - don't listen to all those "I'm so hardcore I use notepad" people :p

I use the code editor in Dreamweaver all the time, and I love it. Colour coded syntax and automatic tag completion is a gift from the gods.

Yeah notepad kinda sucks without the colors.

http://www.oswd.org/ is also a good site, you can download templates and pull them apart in dreamweaver, its good to learn by looking at other peoples work imo.

Whilst both of them things you suggested such as colour coded and auto tag complete are great.

There is no point in these fancy gadgets if you dont know how to code properly.

Yeah I agree. But if you know how to code properly, and actually code everything by hand, then there's no way that you'll be using Notepad to do it.

    Why?

Because Notepad has only 1 undo.

    And it's totally gay.

    :D

I do occasionally use Notepad to add a few lines here and there, but when I'm not using DW, I usually use the excellent PSPad on my PortableApps USB stick.
    It's light and sexy : http://www.pspad.com/ - AND FREE :D

Definitely agree with you here. I'm definitely not a hardcore notepad user. Only use it when editing sometimes

Tip for the next time : don't buy anything if you don't know anything about it ;)
Best way to learn something is to use w3schools tutorials .. after that - some more advanced tutorials from e-books.
