Hi i'm new here and was directed to this forums from another forum i frequent... I'm pretty new to website designing (did a little bit of html almost a decade ago lol), and just created this website http://theebookstop.com/keke/index.html for some reason i'm not satisfied with it at all and my main goal is to do some side work for people looking to put up a personal website, (as i feel my skills aren't nowhere near where it should be to target businesses)... any constructive criticism welcomed! thanks!
I definitely like it. You just need to polish the color coz it's too dark but all in all it's awesome. Good luck! =)
Like Carol Prime already told you, you should use some other colors (lighter colors)... It's a nice website, but a have a couple of remarks: 1. Make sure your main page and your other pages (my work pages) look the same. The keke banner (witch is VERY GOOD) should come back on your other pages... 2. I would not use the laptop on your main page. Try a tumbnail-page to show your creations... Maybe you can use lightbox to show your larger images... SEO 3. Use meta tags 4. Don't use so much flash, it isn't search engine friendly 5. Use H1, H2,... - tags 6. Use ALT and TITLE-tags ... Hope this will help you!
Thanks a lot for the tips! that's exactly what i was looking for! when i started the site i initially planned on setting up a thumbnail gallery on the first page but then i got the laptop idea and i totally abandoned what i originally planned... i'm about to work on the site and will take into consideration those recommendations! i appreciate it
k well, I tried lightening up the page by adding some blue and i got rid of the laptop and put in a lightbox gallery... I uploaded it as a different file just in case lol... http://theebookstop.com/keke/indextest.html i still haven't changed the navigation bar yet though so my old galleries will still be there for now
It's a nice start. I agree with the comments about the laptop - thumbnails would work better. I would make your navigation bar go the length of your banner. Also with the "My Work" drop-down, make the font increase on the mouseover (at the moment the font decreases in size). I would change the footer of your website to a different colour and increase the size of the footer slightly as it gets a little lost in the design.
Thanks a lot everyone! I took what everyone said into consideration and tried applying it but then I just ended up scrapping the 1st page and started all over from scratch! lol... I named it index2.html now just so I could compare side by side the 2 designs... Currently I'm forwarding the domain name to my host so here's the new link to it KekeWebDesigns.com
thanks for the tip.. on a side note, i almost had my first client today! he contacted me through my websites contact form and asked if i could build his website but he also wanted me to build an iphone application, which i have no clue on how to do... so i was honest and told him i couldn't do the iphone app... =(
