Website design expenses for a YouTube like website?

    Hi guys..

I'm kind of confused on this topic.

I've heard people saying that having a website built that's kind of like YouTube will cost anywhere from $3,000 - $100,000.

That's a really BIG gap.. do design / coding even firms really charge $100,000??

I'm just talking about the design and coding, nothing else..

I don't want it exactly like YouTube.. but yea.. what's a good estimate? :S

    Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend making a site anything like Youtube, design wise. For one, the Youtube design has MANY flaws. Why put flaw on your website before you even start?

Secondly, having a design like Youtube makes you look like, for lack of better words, a "copy cat". Be original. The Youtube design has already been done, think of something else! :p

There are tons of video based themes for wordpress and joomla, I would suggest starting there.

The big gap on costings would be down to what functionality you need, how many page templates you would want, how much of it you would want content managed. There is a big difference between having a site where you can embed you tube videos to actually having a website built from scratch with the functionality of you tube - if you specify exactly what you want the website to do then the price won't be so wide ranging between different companies.
