Whether you believe it or not if you own a website and post to it weekly, bi-weekly or monthly you are a blogger. I started blogging 5 years ago and have learned alot since then. I not only increased the number of returning visitors I also climbed the "google ladder" with many of those websites. Here is what works for me. Learn about keyword research! This is fundamentally the most important part of building a website. Keyword rich titles, categories, pages, posts and descriptions is what will help you climb the google ladder. Craft keyword rich website, page and post title and descriptions. Check for broken links. If your website is based on the wordpress architecture then you can get addons to help do this for you. A broken link in and out of your website can equal lost visitors. This gets especially important when you are marketing your real name with your website. I don't know whether it is subconsciously people remember bad experiences. If you start branding your real name and 6 months later you change your hosting provider, each of those links you posted are broken if you don't go back and fix it. Read up on website structure. Plan your website on paper before launching it. If you decide to change you site structure and 3 months later learn about the benefits of keyword rich titles and descriptions don't go back and change your website structure unless you know what your doing. It can cause a huge amount of broken links and lead to database problems. Get on a publishing schedule and stick to it. Their are window programs that can help you create a weekly publishing schedule and send you email reminders weekly. Google pagerank is not only driven with the amount of content but when that content is published. The more consistent you are will help the google bot know when you publish content. Wordpress has program built in it where you can post articles and publish them on a certain date. Start using it! This will build website consistency. Think about it everything is on a schdule..your favorite tv programs air weekly at the same hour of the weekday. Now imagine if it wasn't on schedule and aired randomly. You should be consistent for your visitors! Or in the favorite tv program's case they are consistent for you the viewer. All of these things I just described can be summed up as search engine optimization techniques. Author: Scot Manaher
Now where did you get the source of your article? And why changing a hosting provider causes broken links?
I am the publisher the source is from my own personal expierence. I figured I would add to the community. Changing providers can be tricky if you do not know the step by step process of transfering databases it can cause broken links. But your right if you know the process everything should be fine. The big thing about Wordpress and using databases if you don't know what your doing and change the website struture in the smallest way you risk the chance of corrupting the database and causing broken links. For instance if you decide to edit an old post Title in wordpress if you don't know what your doing Wordpress will change the address to correspond the new title which will cause a 404 error. That is where re-directs come in handy. But why use a redirect when you could have avoided it in the first place? I seen alot of question here so I figured I would post this for people thinking about getting started in website building. If I knew half of what I learned from mistakes I could have saved myself alot of headaches.
