Hi Guys, I'm new to SEO and I need your advice. I'm now building folders and pages in my website. Which one of these 2 is a better structure: 1)website.com/fish-and-chips/index.html 2)website.com/fish-and-chips/fish-and-chips.html You see, I don't wanna be punished for over-optimization. Let me know what you think guys
Don't you think it's an example? I think you should go for the first one. you can leave the index.html, so it would be website.com/fish-and-chips
You shouldn't mess with your main index.html, trying to name it. becuase the server looks for this file first. if its not there then you'll get a directory listing or you'll have to put a .htaccess file in each folder to make it call the file as the index
I would say DONT mess with the index page ,gut feeling ! and then name your pages to cover all bases as you move thru your content ........ website.com/fish-and-chips/index.html website.com/fish-and-chips/fish_and_chips.html website.com/fish-and-chips/fish_and_chip.html website.com/fish-and-chips/chip_and_fish.html website.com/fish-and-chips/chips_and_fish.html also for some reason ,i cant remember why, maybe someone can comment authoritivly but somehting tells me you should use dashes (-) for "url" names but one you get into content use th underscore ( _ ) paul
I've checked that our and it's wrong. dashes are good both for URL and content (folders), while underscore isn't so good.
website.com/fish-and-chips/ is better because your keywords are closer to the beginning of the url. website.com/fish-and-chips/fish-and-chips/ is not good because of over optimisation. Get rid of the index.html page; use htaccess! website.com/fish-and-chips/index.html
