Website approval rate?

At my web directory I lowered the price to encourage more people to submit their site, but it seems the lower the price, the more crappy submissions you get...

I'm not really doing any advertising, or any promotion yet (as I'm busy with another project), so there's not many submissions...

But... Out of the 9 submissions in the last 2 weeks, I've turned down 5 because they looked horrible, were brand new, had no PR, and an alexa rank that looked like a lottery payout...

So, my question is, what's the average approval rate for directories? Do you guys approve anything as long as they pay? Or are you pretty picky also?

My editors are picky, however I wouldn't factor in a web sites PR or Alexa rank into whether or not a web site is accepted. The age of a web site is also irrelevant.

Yes if the site is crap, then it gets dumped, but if it is a decent site which is brand new, has no PR or a rubbish Alexa rank then it will be accepted.

This is afterall the point of submitting, so that they can promote their newly developed web sites. Everyone starts somewhere

Good point!!! I hate to be rejected for some of the above reasons.

There is a big difference to me between newly developed web sites and web sites that have no value in my directory.. :)
