    G'day Forum

I currently manage the website www.australianracingboard.com.au and I am considering my options as far as getting a couple of applications developed in order to make the administering of the site easier.

I am just wanting to know where to start. We currently have a company hosting the site for us, and they built the site, and make any major changes, however they are too expensive, as far as developing applications go. So I am hoping to get a couple of applications built, that they will be able to implement to the site.

Below are the two sections of the website, that I am looking to get automated.

Racing News: Currently we update this manually through HTML. It can be a bit of a pain, having to update it through HTML, as it is a bit fiddley, having to copy and paste all the text and links over, while also having to make sure that code is correct. Also, in order to add a new item, we have to remove an existing item.

Ideally what I would like, is the appearance to pretty much stay the same, however instead of us having to update it through HTML and then FTP the data, we could somehow have an application that allows us to add a new item, by inserting say a heading, link and text into a form, press submit, and then the application does the rest. From putting it on the website, to removing the oldest item.

This Weeks Racing: Similar to the above, we have to update all of this information manually in HTML, which can be a bit fiddley. Although we update it manually, it works like a rotating weekly calendar, where the current day moves to the top, and the previous day drops back down to the bottom. I would like to have this automated, so that we could maybe update a form, which has a Meeting Name, and a Link assoicated with a calender, so that instead of having to update the HTML manually each day, we could fill out the calendar in advance, and the application would simply rotate the information automatically as each day passes.

Any advice that you are able to provide would be much appreicated. I am just wanting to know where I should start as far as trying to find someone who could provide a quote on how much it would cost to develop.

    Cheers

    Jake

You need an Open Source CMS, and you can save a lot of money.
