Website and forum

    I already have a SMF based forum and I am thinking of adding some more pages around it.
    Do you think that this is necessary for a forum to get popularity or leave it as it is?

    Sure, attach a CMS for useful Articles/Tutorials and/or news. More content (especially static content) will always do good.

    Or you can create a separate forum or articles/tutorials. Or post your articles/tutorials to appropriate forums.

    you can do that slowly, but if you are to add news module, ensure you keep addign fresh content on the site regularly.
