Webpage optimization question....

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by NewComputer, Nov 26, 2004.

When discussing on page and off page optimization, there seems to be some confusion about what these terms mean. I actually have what I believe are two correct meaning of off page.

    1. Inbound links to your website from other places.....

    2. Properly written code (meta etc...)

Can anyone confirm one or the other. I had a guy ask me what off page was, and when I started thinking about it I had to give two answers, both of which he took as right.

Is there a right or wrong (or accepted answer)?

    It really is quite complicated
On page = anything that is coded into your page visible or hidden, anything ON your page

Off page = stuff that affects your page that is OFF your page. Like links, anchor text and erm, links and anchor text

    Interesting....

So on page also includes coding.... fair enough. You mentioned 'erm'. What is that?

on page = text links on the site like sitemap etc. + meta + seo etc.

off page = anchor text links form other sites
