I don't get it why people pick on WMW just because it happens to have one of the best information database out there. By the way affiliate links aren't allowe din sigs or anywhere else for that matter. Thank you
I agree. Just as when Tabke blocked Googlebot and had all his forum listing de-indexed and a few days later requested reinstatment and - voila - got it. Why does Tabke get a different set of rules than the rest of the world?
The advantage of being BIG! Like about.com can create pages with no content or very little content only to show adsense.
I hate to see WMW links in SERPS. The discussions are rarely informative from the searches I've gone through and the registration thing has always been a huge pain in the rear - and I've been registered there for years. Any time I want to look at a page, I have to go find my old password, or have them email me a new one. When I get there, I always find either bad advice, advice that says to google for information to resolve a problem, or a thread that simply isn't about what I was searching for. It's good that the registration doorway is gone, but I doubt it's permanent. For a while, though, people can complain about the actual content of those serps instead of the fact that they can't get to the content.
Actually I think webmasterworld is kind of dry and I don't enjoy it that much. I never bothered even registering for free. Dp is on the top of my list. It's alot more fun and enjoyable.
WebmasterWorld is too strict..its like a dictatorship governement running it. You cant drop any names about anything there.
Surely did along with sitepoint and a few others. Nothing comes even close to digital point by a long shot. The traffic proves it. DP is now in the top 100 sites. Thats with all those ajax reply submits, otherwise I think it would be in the top 50 sites.
Not a cloaking, Javascript alerts visitors which use browser to register, but that's not work on spider. Spiders grab the page not explorer it.
Webmaster world is full of rant. I never get some specific answer when I land on their pages. Users have to register then how is google bot able to crawl their pages.
Just a point of note. From Australia, I get that registration page when I try to visit webmasterworld. Now, when at work which uses the US corporate proxy, I can get in fine. This suggests to me that only US traffic gets to visit the website without the registration requirement. Perhaps they don't want clueless/spammy international visitors. So this is legal geotargetting. Googlebot would be allowed in as most would have US IPs - they may have a list of IPs for googlebot which are allowed but staying on topic in regards to the original post - if you are in US then no worries, elsewhere then you have to register. Just my experience so far.
No. I didn't say about.com is doing cloaking. I was talking about the advatage of being BIG SHOT. There are always different sets of rules for the BIG GUYS in this world. Webmasterworld may get away with google because they are big. And about.com can create a page like this just for showing Google adsense without getting banned. If a small webmaster does the same, he get banned immediately.
Are you aware what a Google Premium Publisher is? About.com does qualify to be one - read http://www.jensense.com/archives/2005/07/premium_publish_1.html if you do not know what it is.
Hey, dp could probably get the premium publisher from google too i guess. They get alot of pageviews.
