I'm launching a new blog-based PR writing guide for small business owners, webmasters, and independent professionals / freelancers. The first post series coming up will focus on press release writing (and a little bit on distribution), since I know it can be a popular topic among these groups. Before I start planning out future series, templates, tools, etc. I'd like your feedback on which of the following types of PR writing you would be most interested in learning about to promote your websites and businesses (other than press releases). Share your thoughts on which types are most of interest to you, and feel free to ask specific questions that you'd like to see covered. - White Papers - Feature Articles - Pitch Letters - Newsletters - PSAs (public service announcements) - Op-eds Feel free to mention other options that I haven't listed here, and I'll gladly consider them. Thanks! Jenn
I'd say something on newsletters would definately be useful - all business owners know (I think) that having and using your email list is vital, but making the best use of it so that the recipients actually want to read your newsletters and not regard them as spam - that's the question/topic
haha Thanks williamsweb. Copyblogger's more focused on marketing copy, while this blog focuses on the PR side of the spectrum, so they're somewhat different audiences. magda - good point about the relevance of newsletters to webmasters in particular. A lot of the webmasters I know really only think about their newsletters from a direct marketing perspective, without realizing there's more to them (or that they can benefit their businesses in far more ways than serving up sales pitches). So I think that's a great topic for after the press release series, and probably one I can come up with some tool / template ideas for as well for freebies on the site. Thanks for the input. Feature articles basically come down to article marketing on steroids (knowing how to target, publish fewer copies, and get better overall results than you would with article directories). Not really article marketing, but similar general concept. So I can see how that would also apply well to this kind of audience, who already promote extensively online. Thanks for your input as well.
Pitch Letters are the real 'gem' when it comes to internet marketing. I am sure many webmasters would get help from these letters to increase the sales.
Pitch letters have nothing to do with sales. Maybe you're thinking of sales letters -- they're two different things. This site is about public relations writing, not direct marketing copy. Thanks though.
Newsletters definitely. Almost every IM program that I have tried so far has suggested for me to create and maintain an email newsletter in order to maintain constant communication with users. However, there are so many useless email newsletters with either broken english or are complete junk that I rarely ever sign up for those anymore. Anyways, you should make one of those poll things in your forum
