I've recently found myself with a nice chunk of free time on my hands, and wondering about a good way to spend it. I thought it'd be great if I could code a single comprehensive suite of tools for webmasters to use to moniter and improve their web sites performance. I'll probably make them accesible through a website, as opposed to software. Of course, before I start, I need to have an idea of what sort of tools webmasters(you guys) would WANT to have, and also what sort of great (and not so great) tools are already out there. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hey, It's wonderful that you have free time. There are too many webmaster tools sites out there (my fav. is iWEBTOOL.com, not my site) - and they work well, your competition would be tough. Until just recently, advanced, free website stats would have been a great market but Analytics just took that away from ya However, I would enjoy a tool that encrypts source code but works flawlessly with javascript, CSS, and is compatable in different browsers (if you were set on making free tools). Should be free Otherwise, I think you should write forum software with blogging implemented in it - that'd be cool... free too
yes, i too intrested in an encryption script which works without bugs and have browser compatability. i have been waiting for a site theme developing tool based on its url ..but that would be a big project to work...
I wouldn't even know where to begin for writing a html/javascript/css cross-browser encryption tool. And, there's plenty of forum software out there already plus I like phpBB Ah, oh well, I'll need to come up with another way to direct my boredom induced creativity juices.
i think something like awstats that can be uesed by anyone so you type in the url and people could see how many uniques youve had and where from? this would be good for people buying/selling websites, not sure if it could be done though?
Can't be done. Awstats and like software requires access to a server's log files, something not just your average joe can get at. Is there anyway to really improve upon iwebtools? From what I see, a way to keep track of website directories is lacking, any other things you think could be done to improve upon it?
I just made a webtools with my links directory,... have a look http://webtools.sc2.info . Im not running any competition but just an extra something for my visitors to links directory.
http://www.submissiontracker.net/?a=directories You dont necessarily have to create a brand new tool, you can just improve on something thats allready out there.
Thanks for the links everybody. Is there any other sites out there you suggest I eyeball to get an idea on what sort of competitors I'll have?
