Webmaster - How much should my Adsense share be?

    Hi everybody,

I'm the webmaster of an educational site that runs Adsense as of this month. The owner is the content provider (he writes most of the articles on the site), while I am the webmaster and I also help with the Adsense part of it (in terms of placing the codes on the pages, etc.).

My question is what would be a fair way of sharing the ad revenue? What percentage of this revenue would be reasonable to ask for?

The owner is a person I respect a lot and he is also a friend, so obviously I don't want to come up with an unreasonable request. Has any of you been in a similar situation?

    Any input greatly appreciated!

All the best to you all!

that really depends. whether the site was already developed by the owner, who is doing the marketing to generate traffic, etc. if you were the webmaster since inception and helped develop the site, if it was your idea to include adsense to begin with, and if you are the person to do the marketing as well - then i think 50/50 share sounds fair given that owner of the site provides all the content. so the owner provides content, you drive revenue. but since the owner is a friend, you can work things out to see what is acceptable to both of you

and another thing, who covers the cost associated with running the site?

Since the owner is a friend why not just schedule a yearly trip to Vegas to blow the proceeds for the account.

Not a sermon Just a suggestion.

It seems like you shouldn't be getting a portion of the Adsense revenue at all. He should be paying you per job, or on an hourly basis.

Thanks sultanofseo and everybody else for your replies. I was involved in developing the site from its inception. I also did and continue to do all SEO/marketing, although I have to say most of the site's growth was "natural", driven by content liked and linked to by others. The hosting and domain name costs (about $100 a year) are covered by the site owner, and we are planning to cover that from the Adsense revenue, then split what's left.

Methane, I understand your point, but what we both want to do is use the Adsense revenue as compensation for my services, rather than by hr/job compensation.

I would also like to hear from others, if possible, especially webmasters in similar situations - what is the formula you are using?

The owner originally proposed I should get 15%, and most of you here are saying 50%. This is pretty wide gap, so I want a few more thoughts or opinions on this before I discuss this with my friend.

    Thanks again for your input!
