Any luck with Wordpress MU, anyone?

I am trying Multiply plugin for Wordpress on a new project and its giving me hard time. I have setup multiple presses (blogs). Now when a user logs into his blog, he gets main blog by default and has to select his blog from the drop down. I am trying to resolve this issue.

Hi, i found this one: pLog (http://www.plogworld.net/). It fills my requiriments and the source code looks great comparing to "quick ´n dirty" code from wp

Drupal does user-specific blogs, and is a full-featured CMS on top of that. I've just set up a Blogger-style blog network with user-specific subdomain hosting with Drupal, and can highly recommend it for this kind of deployment. It's a very poweful software.

Eiso, I'd be interested to hear what essential features you considered missing from Drupal? The amount of useful add-on modules available for Drupal is quite large, did you take a look if any of them would solve your needs? ;)

Willy, did you have to do any custom coding to get drupal to use subdomains for blogs?

I am thinking of using it for a similar site myself but on the "demo" site all the blogs are actually at a less than friendly URL..

Yah, there's about <100 lines of code added to my site/sitename.com/settings.php. Very, very simple thing, took all of an hour or two to get working initially.

I'm thinking about eventually cleaning my code up a bit, making it generic and possibly posting it as an add-on module for Drupal. But as for right now, I'll be happy to share it with anyone who knows PHP, meaning they can comprehend what the code is doing, adapt it to their own site easily, and not pester me too much about it ;) If you're interested, PM me...

Also, once the Drupal guys fix this bug, it will supposedly be possible to do user-domain-specific blogs without any additional coding at all... So Drupal is very close to supporting this right out of the box. Possibly even with the upcoming 4.7 release, who knows.

I have heard great things about http://b2evolution.net/ for multiple blogs. It's free and a friend who's a heavy blogger told me it rocks.

This is what I plan to use when I set up my new 5 Star blog network.

I have found a program called host-press but it costs 99 euro...not sure I'm ready for that step yet, but it seems to do everything that WP MU can do...however, based on the above conversation about GPL stuff are they allowed to repackage and sell code like that?

I'm really frustrated with WPMU. To summarize what one person said on the forums there, the code is a wreck but they make it sound pretty well completed with just a few bugs. Wrong...I'll keep trying, but I even set up a new host, bought a domain and paid for a year in advance. THey're optimistic, but slow.
