Do webhost create backup of everything inside their server including MySQL databases in linux servers ? is it possible to ask you webhost to restore a database ? thanks.
I'm on asmallorange and they do perform weekly backups. There was once where my database screwed up and they provided me with the backup. I had to restore it myself since ASO does not provide restoration services (either that or they do not want to be held responsible should things screw up further ).
My entire database screwed up last night and the data was totally wipe out. I ask my webhost if it is possible restore backup as of yesterday or even a couple of days ago. Impossible. their last database backup was December 23 of last year. Now my site is down, months of works vanished.
It depends on the quality and agreement of your webhost. But you should not rely on them you have to make your own backup regularly.
