Hi Im looking into getting a vps for my websites now I was looking at some packages at hostgator and a local one in South Africa called paradigmsollutions they offer great packages but the problem is paying that extra money for cpanel makes it a bit expensive. Now I was looking at some alternatives to cpanel and I found directadmin wich is cheaper and kloxo wich allows 5 domains for free. Have anyone used kloxo before? the demo looks like a great alternative and its free, lightweight and since its not that popular its not widely targeted by hackers. and then also can someone maybe recommend a hosting company with affordable vps packages that can help me setup kloxo? Thanks Tiaan
I have been using kloxo for years now. Almost cPanel, some features are better. If you have used cPanel, kloxo shouldn't take more then 5 minutes to get familiarized with. If you are looking for VPS, one advise I can give is, don't fall for cheap pricing hosts, because right now they might look good to you, but within a month or two most of them go down.
HI I played around wiht the demo and it is great one thing it lacks tho is fantastico scripts but for that I found another alternative aswel called installatron. it has allot more 1 click installation scripts and if you tend to run it on one site then its free, anything more than 1 then you need to pay. Anyways i'm still playing looking around for vps hosting tho I've been with paradigmsollutions for more than 2 years and their service is excellent also I have not experienced any problems with them in the past. but thanks for the advise and comment it really motivates me more on getting a vps and installing kloxo on it .
Kloxo is definitely the way to go if you wanna go with a free admin panel . It's like a CPanel with less looks but just as good . Kind of like XP is to 7 .
from the looks of it ,it looks like it uses allot less resources wich should give me an overall performance gain on my websites if I do decide to go that route
Performance was similar in my opinion but I've used it on big fat dedis (12+ GB , quadcores) and I've yet to test it under heavy traffic . The idea is that it's free , it works and it's the best choice after CPanel . I've even been thinking to create CPanel skin for it so i can stop buying those overpriced licenses and offer it as a default VPS program , maybe even for dedis .
A new skin for kloxo might be a good idea if you do make one keep me in mind lol I would like to use it to or maybe you should contribute it to the kloxo community on their forum
I need to get my code-fu up to date to do that and buy some time (a few tons would be nice) but even with a new skin Kloxo still lacks the massive integration that CPanel has . That's it's true strong point not the looks .
DirectAdmin is also a fairly reasonable alternative. At the end of the day though, cPanel is well worth the $15/mo. Some companies can even get lower prices than that.
I have decided to go with kloxo instead of cpanel Im going to rent a cheap vps with centos installed then install kloxo. thanks everyone for you're replies. Tiaan
