Anything less than $5 is not true and honest. They must be allotted to other people also by some tricks. IPs are allotted officially by government and they cost a lot to resellers also. All the best, Good luck. Toniya
I would like to correct you on this. IANA is responsible for global coordination of the IP addressing systems and their role is to allocate IPs to the RIRs according to their needs which is why our DCs ask for justification when we request IPs. When an RIR requires more IP addresses for allocation or assignment within its region, the IANA makes an additional allocation to the RIR. IANA will not make allocations directly to ISPs or end users except in specific circumstances, such as allocations of multicast addresses or other protocol specific needs. ISPs obtain allocations of IP addresses from a local Internet registry (LIR) or national Internet registry (NIR), or from their appropriate Regional Internet Registry (RIR) and they in turn assign to their end users who are none other than Datacentres (DCs). When we hire/rent/order/Colocate a Dedicated from a Datacenter, the DC assigns these IPs to us at a small fee and we in turn offer it to our resellers at a fee after our tiny margins. As the IPv4 address space is almost exhausted, and the demand is increasing of late, the bottom end users of the chain i.e resellers are faking the need more and hiking these pricing as they wish. IPv4s are available from $1.5 onwards if you order in bulk (justification needed). On Average, it is estimated that every other DC charges $2 per IP to its users (hosts).

Thanks to make issue more official. Almost each host knows about it and explains to clients in simple language as we did. May be true with your DC as far as fee is concerned. He may be overselling. Your personal opinion. Not agreed to this. This is just an excuse. May be at your place. This is not official and differ zone to zone and country to country. All arguments placed in your post are in accordance with your own service and not applicabvle to official status of IP distribution and selling. There are many hosts who are providing IPs even FREE!
