Hey, some of you might remember that I'm running a small webhosting company for the german speaking countries and now I am thinking about expanding business to english. You don't have to tell me about the basics of the business but right now I am wondering which software I should use to provide an admin panel. In Europe or Germany Confixx is the most common followed by Plesk but when I had my webspace still in the US I remember they were using cpanel as interface. My requirements for a admin panel are the it is easy to understand for users and nont to costly also if running on different servers. So my questions is, can you reccommend me a nice interface for this purpose as I can't decide between the ones I know and I'm not sure I know about all working solutions. Thanks and best regards, Rob
Hi Rob, as a former owner of a webhosting company who successfully exited by selling, I can tell you that cpanel is the defacto standard in hosting. Plesk is a competitor as well. For billing/automation/support, whmcs is the standard. You absolutely cannot go wrong with a cpanel/whmcs combo.
TBH nothing will beat CPanel , it's been around for quite some time and it's what most users expect to have at their disposal .
thanks for your answers so far. Just found another problem the licence is like nearly $500 per year but I will only be using it on like one or two virtual servers in the first time. Also I don't have an Idea what whmcs will I guess this also will be quite and amount of money. Is there a possibility to get a licence for a virtual server or like to rent a licence?
Yes. cpanel themselves only sell an annual license. You have to go through a cpanel reseller to get the monthly license. Also, licenses for virtual servers are much cheaper then dedicated servers. Your cost for monthly cpanel for virtual server should be $15/mo. Same with whmcs, you can buy a monthly license direct from whmcs, either branded or unbranded ($15.95 or $18.95).
I think you should go for Cpanel for VPS also go for monthly option which will cost you around $15 /month and latter when you have enogh customer then go for onetime costing.
Also you can try kloxo panel which totally free...and lots of webhosting company provide Kloxo as well as Cpanel..i recommended Kloxo..if you don't want to invest.
@tom11011 thanks I'll go and check this out makes 30$ per month I'll have to cover but still better then like 600 a year As I am not expirienced in Cpanel can you tell me how domain registration and creating webhosting packages can be automated (do I only have to connect cpanel with whmcs?) and thanks for all your answers
Yes, you have to create the packages in whmcs as well as in cpanel. Both cpanel and whmcs have excellent user areas and documentation to get you started.
I strongly suggest that you use Cpanel and WHMCS, and everyone is right above, you should look for cpanel resellers to go monthly.
ok, I'll go for that after I have my page set up Do you have any tips for me regarding the infos I should provide on the front page (of course I can't do a design like HostGator) So I am looking for smaller hosting company's to check out.
thanks for the link, so far I was planning to use the following desing that will already show the webhosting packages or should I change to a design with more space for the products. All I know regarding the design so far is that the header should stay the same for branding purposes hehe
hehe thanks the thing I was wondering about is do I need some text or should I switch to thre boxex for VPS/ Webspace and Domains this is the last question and afterwards I guess I'll start working on the page getting it ready to launch as soon as possible
It's up to you. Basically, after you create the products in whmcs, it will give you links that you can use on your sales page to do the ordering with.
hey guys had some time to work on the translation of the page but forgot where I was planning to rent the licences (whcms and cpanel) any reccomendations? Maybe even for reselling purposes?
